This is my first summer reading a book. I planned reading in this vacation on a daily basis. Given the fact that I have no sense of taste and a bad habit of speculation, I have requested some of my friends to recommend me some of their favorite read. After some hours, I clapped my hands unto my head. There are so many of them, I said loudly, looking puzzled. The recommendations flooded from Clive Cussler to Suzanne Collins to Stephen King and any other best-selling books you can think of. They expected me to comment but I just gave a nod, all of them.
Most of them, if not all, are great. But I had to choose only 10 due to undesired circumstances. I was in dilemma. It was hard like choosing a present for a friend, who expects nothing less. I pondered and got a solution, which rarely happens due to my pea-sized brain. My basis for choosing them was not because of recommendation, okay maybe some of them are, but it’s book cover. I decided to read the first two chapters of the book. If by all means I am not hook to the story by then I will move to the next book on the list.
There are too many of them so I have only started the list up to 10. Here they are:
1. THE HUNGER GAMES by Suzanne Collins
2.CATCHING FIRE by Suzanne Collins
3. MOCKING JAY by Suzanne Collins
4. FRANNY AND ZOOEY by J.D. Salinger
5. A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS by Lemony Snicket
6. WATER FOR ELEPHANTS by Sara Gruen
7. BOOK THIEF by Markus Zusak
8. PRIDE AND PREJUDICE by Jane Austen
9. 100 CUPBOARDS by N.D. Wilson
10. *GUNSLINGER by Stephen King √
*I didn’t like the Gunslinger but managed to finish it. I read it before I got the solution.
i loved pride and prejudice! it was a great read indeed!!! Jane auston to awesome
I bet you did. Too bad I had to watch the movie first before I read the novel.
Well, I read the three of the Hunger Games saga and I gotta tell you that they are GREAT, and really engaging. Some nights I had to force myself to stop reading because it was 3 AM in the morning and I had to wake up at 6AM to go to school. So imagine. My blog partner also loves them.
I also like A Series of Unfortunate Events a lot. I’ve read the first three of the series and the ten other books of the series are definitely in my wish list 🙂 I also love the “outside” of the books. They’re so beautiful and they look as if they were old.
Currently, I am almost begging my dad to buy me Water for Elephants! (and once it is bought I’ll have to wait like a month for it to arrive)
I started Pride and Prejudice last year, but I didn’t finish it. Not because it was boring, I actually liked it, but I was reading the ebook on the computer and that is SO tiring.
Here are some reviews on our blog about the books you’ve chosen:

PS: Your reading list is great! 😀
Thanks for giving me a second opinion and giving the links. I will surely read it after I finish Nick and Norah’s Playlist.
I do agree that reading in the computer is tiring. But I am planning to buy an e-reader, which I guess will take me months since I have no source of money except from my allowance.
I was actually planning to read books this summer, but don’t know which book I would read first. haha
I guess we are in the same river but take a different boat :]
Do you know which e-reader you want yet?
I am down to Nook or Kindle. But I have to wait till December to accumulate enough money. However, it isn’t so bad since by the time the year hits June I could again borrow books from the school’s library.
What do you have, Sony, Kindle or Nook?
hey i have a kindle.its pretty cool..you can get the e books right from it through amazon since it has wifi…its really nice but my mom gets mad at me when she sees me on that for hours lol.
I don’t have an e-reader yet… I read some reviews about the different e-readers, saw videos and everything, to see which one was the most convenient. But I can’t find anyone that I LOVE, you know. Besides, e-books cost the same as print books, as far as I know, and I still prefer the paper. I would give e-readers a couple of years and see how much they have improved, but at the moment, I’ll keep buying the traditional books 🙂
Are e-readers popular in your country? Here in Argentina I haven’t seen anybody using one…
No. I haven’t seen anybody using one either. But once I get an e-reader, I have no other expenses. We have different law on piracy so I can just download ebooks.
I loved The Virgin Suicides by Eugenides. One of the best books I’ve read. But I must warn you, it’s depressing. Also, Water for Elephants is awesome.
I have a Kindle and I would highly recommend it. I love mine! There are many books available for free on Kindle too. There is always a Top 100 Free books list, which is updated regularly. There are a lot of classics on there, but new books too.
Oh that’s comforting. Thanks for the recommendation deb.
